CARACAS, VENEZUELA - MAY 9, 2017: Hans Wuerich, 27, poses for a portrait in his bedroom in Caracas, Venezuela. Mr. Wuerich made national and international headlines for stripping completely naked and climbing atop a military tank during an anti-government protest. Hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans have taken to the streets in recent weeks to show their discontent with unpopular Socialist President, Nicholas Maduro, high triple digit inflation, and widespread shortages of food and medicine Mr. Wuerich said he decided to protest in the nude after becoming fed up with his family being hungry, and how difficult it is to find food - he regularly waits up to 10 hours in lines outside of supermarkets, often sleeping outside the shops over night - only to find no food once he arrives at the front of the line. “The most important thing for me about this protest and why I did it, was because I am very sensitive to the misery I see on the street. Not to say that I am hippie or flower-eater, or anything like that, but this made me very sensitive indeed. When I am on the streets, when I am in the neighborhoods, when I am in the public transport, when I am in wealthy neighborhoods too, I see that there is misery in this country everywhere and that makes me very sad and frustrated,” he said. "I thought about that, without fear to die. I knew the pros and cons. I knew that everything could go wrong and that they could even take my life."
